I'm just your average, everyday, divorced 38 year old girl -- overweight, tragically unhip, and trying to make a life for myself. I live with two furry beasts, Dave and Abby, whose feline mission in life is to choke me with their fur. Nothing special.

Blog Appreciation Day (for Neil)

Neil is sponsoring an initiative to show support for other bloggers by taking a picture of their site on your computer with something from your location in the picture. The cup in the picture above is from my beloved Padres and shows that I'm really in San Diego. (Or, I suppose, that I've been to Petco Park and bought a soda.)

Anyway, much love to all of you, my fellow bloggers. Write on.

Writer's block

Wednesday morning. I seem to have nothing to say lately. I feel blocked, as though there may never be anything interesting to write about again. Not coincidentally, the binges are back and I haven't been able to exercise yet this week.

Monday night was the Advocacy Committee meeting that I co-chair for the Junior League and it didn't finish until after 8:00 p.m. Last night brought the Community Council meeting for the Junior League and it didn't finish until after 8:00 p.m. Tonight is Gloria and we don't finish until 7:30 p.m., but I still might be able to get in some time on the treadmill afterwards if I can manage to eat before my session with Gloria. If I don't eat first then I'm hungry and tired and it's late and the exercise just won't happen. Tomorrow brings my long-overdue haircut, and it should be finished by 5:30, so I'm hoping to still make it to water aerobics. Perhaps I'll do the 6:00 and 7:00 p.m. classes. Friday night brings a football scrimmage at 4:00 p.m. for Alcott and then his oldest brother plays in his first Varsity football game at 5:30 p.m. No, I won't get any exercise in that night, either.

What I have to keep reminding myself is that I'm still learning how to eat healthy without being obsessive and how to enjoy activity again and you're not perfect when you're learning a new skill. (As a perfectionist from way back, this is not easy to accept.) I think that another contributing factor is the little "happy dance" I did after last week's meeting with Gloria. This would not be the first time that I've watched in horror as I respond to a great week with binges and backsliding. Even more proof that this is a totally mental thing for me and that I need to stick with it because it keeps getting a little bit easier each time to get back on track.

Oh, and if you ever need a pick-me-up, try listening to Number One by Pharrell and Kanye West. Seriously, people, there's no way that you can continue feeling grumpy while listening to this song.
