I'm just your average, everyday, divorced 38 year old girl -- overweight, tragically unhip, and trying to make a life for myself. I live with two furry beasts, Dave and Abby, whose feline mission in life is to choke me with their fur. Nothing special.

Going to Little Rock

Saturday morning. In search of yet more cookbooks, TCB and I drove the two hours each way to Little Rock, Arkansas. We also got to eat breakfast at the Cracker Barrel in West Memphis, which is a huge treat when the closest restaurant to us at home is in Yuma. Arizona.

Anyway, it turns out that both Junior League houses were closed (probably should have investigated that before we left - oops!) but we were able to find the Little Rock cookbook at a local bookstore. I'll order the North Little Rock cookbook directly from them online, so that's OK. We also drove through the Capitol grounds (gorgeous) and around the downtown area (pretty deserted, surprisingly) before hitting the road to drive back to Memphis.

After a long day on the road, I really wanted a nice, quiet dinner with TCB. We tried to go to a famous place for BBQ ribs, but there were about 50 people waiting in an alley with an open, odiferous dumpster for company, and that just didn't sound appetizing. Instead we ended up at an Italian steakhouse where we paid more for dinner than my annual Junior League dues and well worth the price. A beautiful, quiet evening with wonderful food and wine with my Cute Boy...what more could a girl ask?

There's no cheerleading in baseball!

Friday night. We were at the Redbirds game, in our fabulous seats right behind home plate, when one of the greatest offenses to all true baseball fans appeared in front of me: cheerleaders. Not just enthusiastic young people jumping around and tumbling, but girls in skirts and cut off shirts with pom-poms. Hello? Do these people not know that baseball doesn't HAVE cheerleaders???

Other than that, though, it was a fabulous experience. If you're ever coming through Memphis and the team is at home, come on down to AutoZone Park and catch a game...you won't be sorry.

TCB in heaven

Friday afternoon. Some of you might recognize this shopping site, but for those that don't, it's all about everything an outdoorsman could ever dream of. I gave TCB $100 in gift cards at Christmas and, since we don't have one any closer to us than Vegas (5 or so hours), this is his first chance to shop. He ended up buying a new rod and reel and is a very happy boy.

(Don't worry, I dragged him over to the Junior League house to buy a cookbook before we got to the Bass Pro Shop, so I had my enjoyment, too!)

I'm here

Friday morning. After an interesting day of travel (ugh!), TCB and I had dinner at the Blues City Cafe on Beale Street last night and I snapped this picture. Today's schedule is sort of up in the air. TCB has a few hours of work to do so I'm carless in downtown Memphis. I think I'll take a shower then head down to the Starbucks in Peabody Place for a latte then take a stroll around the shops and restaurants. Or, I could hit the day spa adjacent to my hotel for a massage.

My skin burns with the fire of 1,000 flaming suns!

Wednesday afternoon. What is the best thing about getting a wicked nasty sunburn the day before traveling to Memphis to meet TCB for 4-1/2 days? Nothing. There is nothing positive about my burning shoulders and chest! Owie, owie, OW. Moving along.

I have another appointment with Gloria (the link is in the last post - I'm feeling lethargic) tonight, so there should be something interesting to write about tomorrow. Except that I'll be flying to Memphis tomorrow, so it will more than likely be closer to Friday before I post anything. In any case, it's been an interesting few days since my last post. I've not really binged, but I'm not being "good", either. I guess that's all part of the deal, though. If I want to get down to a healthy weight and feel whole and healthy, there can't be "good" and "bad" days...just me doing my best and making sensible choices that don't leave me feeling deprived. Things like trying to eat more fruits and veggies, drink more water than diet soda, avoiding fried foods...even if I still eat more than is recommended. I'm not sure and I could be totally wrong here, but I truly feel that stabilizing my eating (no binges, no restricting) has to be at the foundation of real, lasting change.

OK, off I go home to start on (more) laundry and all of the other loveliness that must be accomplished before I can leave (early) tomorrow morning. Be good to yourself, kids!
