I'm just your average, everyday, divorced 38 year old girl -- overweight, tragically unhip, and trying to make a life for myself. I live with two furry beasts, Dave and Abby, whose feline mission in life is to choke me with their fur. Nothing special.

On the road again

Monday night. If it's Monday, I must be in Tucson, Arizona! Yup, I'm traveling once again, this time for business. The trip here was uneventful and I'm being treated to quite the laser light show courtesy of Mother Nature, so it's a good start to an exciting week.

It's been go, go, GO ever since I got home at the unholy hour of 1am on Friday morning. Friday was my day to talk to everyone (and I mean everyone) involved with Alcott's case. A hour with the case worker, a hour with the other CASA for his siblings, a hour with the social worker, and a separate hour with the case worker, again. That brought me to about 4pm, so I put a load of laundry in and decided to try to take a little nap. The phone soon rang, it was TCB, calling to tell me that he'd closed on his brand new condo and wanted me to come up and celebrate in the hot tub. Grabbing my swimsuit and a change of clothes, off I went, not to return until Sunday morning when I had to run around getting ready for an afternoon with Alcott and his brother. We were supposed to go to the sandcastle competition but neither of the boys seemed enthused, so we went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory instead. (I cannot recommend this movie highly enough. For it to be able to entertain 14 and 15 year old boys and impart a strong pro-family/anti-bad behavior message to kids is nothing short of miraculous. We left the theater with Alcott's brother singing the Oompa Loompa song while I giggled and reminded him not to bet the farm on a singing career after graduation. I dropped both boys off then headed home to finish my laundry and pack for this week's trip. After about an hour, the phone rang (again!) and it was TCB asking me to come to a reception for a seminar he's attending this week in San Diego. Yikes! I was dressed for the beach with teenagers but managed a quick, Clark Kent-like transformation into tropical casual and set off for the hotel. Finally, at 11pm, after saying goodbye and driving home, I stepped back through my door, exhausted. I went straight to bed.

I accomplished nothing this weekend of any substance, but I wouldn't trade any of it for the world. I think I used to complain about how bored and boring my life was. Be careful what you wish for, friends!
